Bus Rider Rules and Regulations

To the parents of children riding school buses:

The rules and regulations listed below are the result of careful study based upon the experiences we have had in the operation of a school system.  Cooperation and courtesy in following these suggestions will permit us to better serve your child.  Please go over the rules with your children so they will know what is expected of them when they ride the bus.  Transportation is a SERVICE provided by the school, not a right.  A child who receives three bus incident reports will be denied bus riding privileges for one to three days, unless otherwise specified.  If denial of bus riding privileges occurs, your child is still required, by law, to attend school.

RESPONSIBILITY OF THE PARENTS:

1. To ascertain and insure that their children are at their designated bus stop five minutes before the bus is scheduled to arrive. The driver is responsible for the maintenance of this schedule and cannot wait for tardy pupils.

2.  To provide necessary protection of their children when going to and from the bus stop.

3.  To accept joint responsibility with the school authorities for proper conduct of their children and be responsible for restitution for any vandalism of the buses.

4.   To expect your child to walk some distance to a bus stop as required by state regulations.

5.   To provide written permission for your children to board or exit the bus at a stop other than the regular stop.  The child/children must have a school issued bus pass to exit the  bus at a stop other than the regular stop.

6.   To inform the Transportation Office, or the driver, when absence is expected from school.  If a student is not at the pickup for three consecutive days, the driver will not stop again until notified by the parents.  To make reasonable efforts to understand and cooperate with those who are responsible for pupil transportation.

 RESPONSIBILITY OF THE PUPILS

1. Obey your bus driver at all times.  Direct disobedience will result in denial of bus riding privileges for 1-5 days.

2. Improper Boarding and Departing Procedures.  Stay off the roadway at all times when waiting for the bus.  When crossing the road or highway, always cross a least ten feet in front of the bus.  Wait until the bus comes to a stop before attempting to enter or leave the bus.  Do not leave the bus without the driver’s consent (except at home or school).

3. Remain properly seated at all times.  Move over and allow others to be seated. Keep feet out of aisles, off the seats and backs of seats and do not block aisles.  Owner must hold musical instruments, backpacks, etc.

4. Keep your head, arms and hands inside the bus at all times. The throwing of any objects inside the bus or out the bus windows could result in denial of bus riding privileges.

5. Be courteous.  Radios and tape decks may not be played on the bus unless headphones are used.  No excessive noise or excessive horseplay.

6.  Profane or vulgar language, obscene signs or gestures will not be tolerated.

7.  Eating or drinking on the bus is not allowed.

8.  Fighting WILL NOT be tolerated and will result in denial of bus riding privileges for 1-5 days.

9.   Smoking, use of drugs, gambling, alcoholic possession or consumption, or any form of illegal activities are prohibited.  No lighters or matches allowed on the bus.  Violation will result in denial of bus riding privileges and possible referral to police.

10. Tampering with the emergency door or emergency equipment will result in denial of bus riding privileges for 1-5 days.  No defacing of bus equipment or destruction of property.

11.  No bringing of articles aboard the bus of injurious or objectionable nature.

12.  No rude, discourteous and annoying conduct.  No spitting or littering on the bus.

13.  Do not abuse and bother others.
