Regular Meeting

July 26, 2004

The meeting was held at the Mason-Lake ISD board room

1] CALL TO ORDER

President Al Deering called the meeting to order at 7:50 p.m.

2] ROLL CALL

Members Present: Al Deering, Jim Dittmer, Nancy Knizacky, Gena Nelson, Roland Struve, Sherry Wyman

Members Absent: Randy Saxton

Others Present: Chuck Sandro, Carla Mayer, Deb Thomas, Kris Courtland-Willick

Also Present: Mark Steigenga, Ludington Daily News

3] CONSENT APPROVAL OF AGENDA

The agenda was approved by consent with the addition of a resolution to vote the MASB Election ballot

4] *CALENDAR APPROVAL

The minutes of the June 28, 2004 regular meeting and the Finance committee meeting, as well as the claims for the month were approved with a motion by Mr. Dittmer and supported by Ms Knizacky.

The motion carried 6 – 0.

5] DELEGATIONS, COMMUNICATIONS AND EXPRESSIONS FROM THE PUBLIC, 30 Minutes maximum

None.

6] INFORMATIONAL REPORTS

A. Soccer Field Work – Mr. Dittmer

Mr. Dittmer gave an update on the progress of the work on the soccer field. Filling and leveling continue, with seeding to take place this fall.

According to Ms. Willick, the annual audit is scheduled for the week of August 16, 2004.

Ms. Thomas reported that summer work and maintenance continues.

Superintendent
Chuck Sandro
Mr. Sandro reported on the following:

Referenced the biography information of the candidates for the MASB Region 3 directorship

Complemented Brooks Johnson for her letter that appeared in the MAHPERD Journal

Announced that the MCCEF property adjoining school property is being mowed and prepared for use by students this fall

The Victory Early Childhood Center is progressing nicely under the guidance of Angie Hood, Trent Naumcheff, and Christy Christmas

The high school Jazz Band has been invited to participate in the Detroit Jazz Festival over the Labor Day Weekend

The Dunes portable has been relocated to Scottville Elementary and will be used for art and music classes.

He will be attending the Legislative Consortium Dinner, along with Ms. Nelson, Ms. Wyman and Mr. Dittmer, on July 29 in Traverse City

8] *ACTION ITEMS

A. Resolution Authorizing Borrowing Against State Aid - Kris Courtland-Willick

Ms. Willick recommended the resolution be adopted to allow the district to borrow $2.1 million against State Aid. The loan would be due in October; at that time she will likely recommend another resolution to borrow that would move the district’s annual borrowing cycle to October.

A motion was made by Ms. Knizacky, supported by Mr. Dittmer, to approve the resolution as presented (see attached resolution). The motion carried 6 – 0.

B. Resolution to vote the MASB Ballot

A motion was made by Ms. Knizacky, supported by Ms. Nelson, to cast a vote for Mr. Jim Dittmer for the MASB Region 3 director. The motion carried 5 – 0, with Mr. Dittmer abstaining.

It was moved by Mr. Dittmer, supported by Mr. Struve, to adjourn the meeting. The motion carried 6 – 0.

The meeting adjourned at 8:22 p.m.
